Hiroshi Sato of The Monorals, Studio Environmental Portrait
I’ve been doing photography for the band, The Monorals, when schedules aligned, since at least 2010. That year I went on tour with them for a gig at Notting Hill Arts Club in London.
I’ve known them all since 2000, and all I can say is I love these guys.
Needless to say, when Hiroshi Sato, the lead singer and guitarist of The Monorals, asked me recently to do some new photos for his music marketing and band promotion, I was thrilled. After many years apart, not much has changed between us. We are like brothers always. Hiroshi wanted some vintage style portraits reminiscent of behind the scenes photography of his own favorite musicians and music influences like the Rolling Stones, the Clash, and the Ramones. The images from that era remain some of the most highly esteemed documentary photos of musicians for me, so I was happy to oblige.
We made these images of him in his new home studio in Kisarazu, Japan. I only wish we could have had more time together. Next time, my friend, we have to do much more.
I still need to add the photographs I made from 2010 in London and add a link to those. Coming soon!
